The new season of the National Hockey League has just begun and part of the games that make up the fifty or so played during the first week of the 2011-2012 year, is a game between the Minnesota Wild and the St Louis Blues, which will be at 8:00PM Eastern Time on Thursday, September 22nd, joining four other Thursday games that will be played that day. The defending champs this season are the Boston Bruins, taking their first Stanley Cup since 1971 last year. They will be hoping to make that a second time around and last year's runners-up, the Canucks, will hope to better their final position by one.

Minnesota is in the Northwest Division and last year the standings had them in the third spot after winning 39 games and losing 35. They had a total of 86 points last season and Martin Havlat was their top scorer, the Left Wing earning them 62 points. St. Louis is in the Central Division, and they took fourth last year with 87 points.
